- IDPD in Nyamagabe
December 3 is an international observance promoted by the United Nations since 1992 that aims to promote an understanding of disability issues and mobilize support for the dignity, rights and well-being of persons with disabilities. Each year the day is celebrated with a special theme. In 2014 the International Day of Persons with Disabilities is” the promise of technology for achieving disability-inclusive sustainable development goals”. Like in other Districts of the country, Nyamagabe District celebrated IDPD and it was celebrated together with World AIDS Day. It was celebrated in Gasaka sector where around 250 people participated in the event.
In his speech, Mayor of Nyamagabe district thanked persons with disabilities on how they struggle for self reliance. Mayor promised persons with disabilities that the district will strive for inclusion of PWDs in all development programs and will continue to advocate to the district partners to include persons with disabilities in their interventions.

During this event, UPHLS provided the message on HIV and AIDS prevention and at that time in collaboration with Nyamagabe health centre we conducted mobile VCT where 57 persons have been tested for HIV. In this event 400 condoms have been distributed to the persons who were in need.

UPHLS also exhibited different IEC tools used in HIV prevention, the compilation on Rwandan Disability Legal Framework.
