Theme of the year : Sustainable development, “the promise of technology”.
The 17th celebration of international day of persons with disabilities (IDPD) at national level, the ceremony held on 3rd December 2014 at KARONGI District. In these times, UPHLS have chosen to celebrate the IDPD combined together with international day against HIV/AIDS that normally takes place on 1st December every year.
Both ceremonies have been celebrated on 3rd December.
In his speech Romalis NIYOMUGABO the UPHLS legal representative said “The combination of both international day against HIV/Aids and IDPD was an opportunity to sensitize a great number of people with disabilities at once about HIV/Aids prevention as well an opportunity again to conduct an activity of VCT mobile”.

The representative in place of Prime Minister Dr MUKABARAMBA ALVERA in her word wished to strengthen programs that support People with Disabilities (PWDs). The idea has complied with lessons learnt from theatres, poems and written newsletters about PWDs. She added that” possible Aid and advocacy will be done in order to handle some challenges and constraints that may frustrate advancement and positive living condition together with development in general in favor of PWDs.
