UWINEZA Francine lives in Rubavu district, Mbugangari sector, she is a director of health in Rubavu district, before being trained on disability-friendly planning and she did not know how to integrate PWDs into the existing health care services in the district. After UPHLS empowered her with disability-friendly planning training, she brought together community health workers, training them how to provide inclusive community health services.
“After UPHLS’ training, the head of Byahi health center and I organized meetings with community health workers per sector sensitizing them about the inclusion of PWDs within their community health care services and we realized that the most of CHWs were not aware about disability where they used not to take PWDs into considerations thus this has been the starting point towards inclusion and advocacy of PWDs into existing development programs. I approached my colleagues at district level and shared with them the issues and challenges faced by PWDs in accessing health services then as a conclusion all all future development programs will be disability friendly.” Said Francine.
Francine covered the whole district and this brings hope to Rubavu district to provide inclusive health services and take into consideration PWDs issues.
