The Umbrella of organizations of persons with disabilities in the fight against HIV/AIDS and for Health promotion (UPHLS) is a Rwandan based non-governmental organization (NGO) based in KIGALI and operating countrywide since 2006. UPHLS promotes right and inclusion of people with impairments whether physical, sensory, mental or intellectual in National HIV response and health promotion through capacity building, policy making, programming, monitoring and evaluation.
Its now made by 10 National level Disabled people Organizations (themselves representing other groups of PWDs per category of Disability countrywide). It has a network of more than 800 community volunteers throughout the country, 95% of them located in rural areas. UPHLS is renowned lead organization in disability mainstreaming in HIV responses and builds the capacity of organizations of persons with disabilities (PWDs) to be able to participate in the mainstream development processes.
UPHLS’ capacity building focuses on HIV&AIDS , health promotion and disability right. It has got strong regional partnership with civil society organizations and government institutions through NCPD and MOH/RBC, international and national development partners on disability and HIV/AIDS
