Mr. Julian Rubayiza is a 45 years old, father of three children living in Shyogwe sector, Muhanga district. He is blind and he used to live in isolated life and going back home without being treated after many hours on a queue to get services at Shyogwe health center.
"I used to have a person assistant when I go to health center waiting a long time I used to ask him time and we go back home which made me being always sick. I remember some years back i I would have asked a man to lead me to the Center, standing and waiting on a long queue I used to ask him, “How many people are in front of us ?” ” twenty or thirty.” he said ! “And what time is it ? Why are you asking the time” ? He retorted. I knew exactly what this meant. It meant that we had to go home and come back the following day very early in the morning as we could not get to the front of the line. Were we waiting longer because we had disabilities ?"
These days I still come to Shyogwe Health Center happily because it is near my home but nearness is not the only thing that attracts me ! The services have been significantly changed. Now I do not have to stand boiling in the burning sun in the queue waiting for the service, squeezing and squashing with people.
It is only a matter of arriving at the gate and then someone comes and leads me to the service room. It seems like everything has been programmed. It is a miracle for me. I only spend about 30 minutes here ! They test my eyes, give me some medication and I immediately go home. I am not the only one to get better service even some friends of mine who are disabled who come to this heath center say that the service is now very good. We encourage others who had abandoned this health center due to bad service to come back. It is wonderful now to have a good health center in our community.
